vTA: Going Solar

On December 22, 2007 vanderToolen Associates flipped the switch on a new 30kW photovoltaic solar generation system thereby reducing the firm’s consumption of electricity and returning over-production of electrical service to the grid. President Phil vanderToolen commented that, “he has seen the benefits of solar technology after he installed panels at his personal residence.” He believed that his Napa, California office could also benefit from a similar installation and partnered with other building tenants to install a roof-mounted system, which when operating returns 80% of peak electrical use to the grid. Mr. vanderToolen believes that as his landscape architectural design firm continues to be involved in Green and LEED projects they should exemplify their commitment to these types projects by actively participating in this movement.
